Suggest your site for inclusion at Yahoo! For guidelines on how to submit your site to Yahoo!, see http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/. Note: Before suggesting your site, find and write down the paths to at least three Yahoo! categories you think your site fits in. Also, write a concise description of your site in 30 words or less and save it for later use. Make sure that you include in your description keywords or key phrases you think others might use in searching for a site like yours. Then, go to the category that you think best fits your site and click the Suggest a Site link at the bottom of the page (note: some categories are for commercial site submissions only). When asked what other categories fit your site, type or paste in the paths for the other categories you took note of earlier. When asked for a description of your site, paste in the description you have already written. Be patient! Yahoo! takes their own sweet time considering which links it will include in their directory. If they choose to list you, it may take several weeks or months to be listed.
Yahoo!

Suggest your site for inclusion in other search engines and directories. Reuse the description you wrote for submitting to Yahoo! when submitting to this sites. For a listing of other search engines and directories you can submit your site to, see Yahoo!'s listing of search engines and directories at http://dir.yahoo.com/Computers_and_Internet/Internet/World_Wide_Web/Searching_the_Web/Search_Engines_and_Directories/.

Seek out appropriate reciprocal links. It is a good idea to create a separate page within your site for listing links to other sites. Rather than simply call this page a "links" page, call it a directory, guide, roadmap, or some other name that makes it sound more important than just being a page of links. Seek out other sites on the Web that you think might be interested in exchanging reciprocal links. Include them in your page of reciprocal links and publish it to the Web. Next, e-mail the authors or owners of the sites you have listed, complement them on the content and/or design of their site (important!), tell them you have included their link in your "Roadmap to [fill in the blank] Web Resources" page (or something like that), and then politely ask them if they would consider adding a link at their site back to your site's main page. Note: There are utilities and services that repute to be able to automate the creation of reciprocal links. The pages they create are commonly referred to as "link farms." You should realize, however, that many search engines and directories have gotten wise to this and actually penalize pages that are linked to link farm pages. This is one reason you should not call your own page simply a "links" page or name it as links.html, for instance. You should also include short descriptions and appropriate commentary along with your links, so your page will not be mistaken for simply being a link farm.
