Chapter 30

  • The Legacy Tools button in the Controls group in the Developer tab contains buttons for inserting text, check box, and drop-down form fields into a form.
  • A text form field is similar to a plain text content control.
  • Insert a text form field by clicking the Legacy Tools button in the Developer tab and then clicking the Text Form Field button at the drop-down list.
  • Insert a check box form field in a form where you want the person entering information to choose an option by inserting an X in the check box.
  • Insert a check box form field by clicking the Legacy Tools button in the Developer tab and then clicking the Check Box Form Field button at the drop-down list.
  • To fill in a form, display the New Document dialog box and then click My Templates… in the Templates section. At the New dialog box, click the desired template, make sure Document displays in the Create New section, and then click OK.
  • You can print a filled-in form in the normal manner or you can print the data only.
  • To print the form data only, display the Word Options dialog box with Advanced selected and then insert a check mark in the Print only the data from a form check box in the When printing this document section.
  • Create a drop-down list of choices by inserting a drop-down form field and then typing choices in the Drop-Down Form Field Options dialog box. Display this dialog box by inserting a drop-down form field and then clicking the Properties button in the Controls group in the Developer tab.
  • When you fill in a form with a drop-down form field, make the field active, click the down-pointing arrow at the right side of the form field, and then click the desired option at the drop-down list. You can also display the drop-down list by pressing the F4 function key or pressing Alt + Down Arrow key.
  • Customize check box form field options at the Check Box Form Field Options dialog box. Display this dialog box by inserting a check box form field and then clicking the Properties button in the Controls group in the Developer tab.
  • Customize text form field options at the Text Form Field Options dialog box. Display this dialog by inserting a text form field and then clicking the Properties button in the Controls group in the Developer tab.
