Writing an Essay. The theme of aging and death is present in much Western literature as well. Read Shakepeare’s Sonnet 73 at the Web site of the University of Nevada. Then write a short essay comparing and contrasting the images of aging and death in The Sound of the Mountain and the sonnet. Which season is referenced by both the author and the poet? Why? What are the attitudes of the writers to aging and death? Which images do you think are the most effective? Why? These are some points to consider when writing your comparison/contrast essay.
