Jennifer Armstrong is the author of over 50 books for young readers, including The Dreams of Mairhe Mehan, Mary Mehan Awake, Pockets, Chin Yu Min and the Ginger Cat, and Black-eyed Susan. "The Face of the Deep Is Frozen" is from the book Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World: The Extraordinary True Story of Shackleton and the Endurance. The book was a 1999 Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Book and is on many recommended reading lists. Armstrong did months of research and even traveled to England to select the photographs for the book. Apart from that book, Armstrong usually writes fiction because she likes to make up stories and create her own characters. She started to make up stories when she was in the first grade. It was then that she knew she wanted to be an author. Armstrong lives with her husband in Saratoga Springs, New York. The couple has three dogs named Minch, Chloe, and Posy.
