Elizabeth Hess is a New York City arts critic and journalist. She has written for the Village Voice and the Washington Post, among other publications. Her most recent book, Lost and Found: Dogs, Cats, and Everyday Heroes at a Country Animal Shelter, is an eye-opening record of true events about a team of dedicated volunteers who fight for the lives of numerous castoff dogs, cats, rabbits, and even traumatized horses. This book was inspired when she and her daughter visited the rural animal shelter in upstate New York to adopt a dog. Hess was horrified at what she saw, so she decided to write a book about her experiences. Presently, she volunteers at the Colombia-Greene Humane Society and lives in New York City with her ten-year-old daughter; they are both dog lovers.
