With a partner, make a cluster chart for each word by putting each word into a large circle with smaller circles attached to it on the outside. Discuss each word and list things that you already know about the words in the outer circles. Then read the definition and contextual sentence for each word. Add new details about the word to your chart. Think of phrases in which the word might be used and add these to your chart.
Read the myth silently. When you reach a part of the story that includes an underlined vocabulary word, stop and read that part aloud with your partner. Rephrase the sentence in which the word appears to demonstrate that you understand how the word is used in the story. Then continue reading silently until you reach the next vocabulary word. If additional words are unfamiliar to you, stop and discuss the words with your partner. Make sure you understand the story before you continue reading.
If you are having difficulty discussing the vocabulary words as you read, use the Guided Reading Questions. As you read, stop at each Guided Reading Question, discuss the question with a partner, write the answer down, and continue reading.
With your partner, use the vocabulary words in new sentences that describe things that happened in the myth, and illustrate each of your sentences. Share your sentences and illustrations with the class.
