
Theme. A theme is a central, or main, idea in a literary work. A theme is a statement about a topic in the literary work. For example, if a topic within a story is honesty, honesty strengthens friendships could be a possible theme in that story. Use the Graphic Organizer below to help you organize your findings about theme in Potters Gray.
Foreshadowing. Foreshadowing is the act of hinting at events that will happen later in a poem, story, or play. As you read Potters Gray, look for passages that may hint at something to come.

The Louvre Museum is a famous fine arts museum in Paris, France. Before it was a museum, the Louvre was a fortress and then it became the home to the kings of France. It was built in 1200.
Paulus Potter was a Dutch painter and etcher who lived from 1625 to 1654. His father, like himself, was an artist. Paulus Potter is most famous for his paintings of animals. He was one of the first artists to paint them as prominent subjects of his compositions. Paulus died from tuberculosis at the age of 28.
Divide the story into roughly six parts. Determine the main topic of each section and write it down in a slice of the pie chart. When you are finished, reread your six topics. Think about the topics and how they relate to one another. What statements can you make about these topics?
