During Reading

Make a Mind Movie

As your teacher reads the poem, close your eyes, and make a mind movie. What do you think of as each line is read? For instance, when your teacher reads, “When evening had flowed between houses,” picture what evening looks like. What would it sound like? How would it smell? Who would be there?

Fix-Up Idea: Reread

If you are having difficulty making a mind movie with your eyes closed, keep your eyes open, drawing pictures of what is occurring in the poem. After your teacher finishes reading the poem, reread the poem several times to help yourself draw the images in the poem.

After Reading
