Read the Prereading information on page 676. Then look at the picture of the hot dog on page 677. Write down what you would see, smell, feel, and taste if the hot dog was in your hands. Create a Graphic Organizer like the one on page 676 in your notebook, using symbols to represent each of the five senses.
Listen as your teacher reads the poem aloud. Mark parts of the poem that appeal to your senses with a bookmark or sticky notes.
If you are having difficulty marking things that appeal to your senses, read the poem with a partner. Help each other find things in the poem that appeal to the five senses.
After your teacher has finished reading the poem, look over the details you marked as your teacher read. Write each of the details into one of the columns in your Graphic Organizer.
