Alan Alexander (A. A.) Milne (18821956) was born in London, England. Milne began his writing career working for newspapers and magazines. From 1906 to 1914, he worked as an assistant editor and writer for a British humor magazine called Punch. Milne is best known for the children's verses and stories he wrote after the birth of his son, Christopher Robin. Milne's storybooks Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928) are about the adventures of his son and his son's favorite stuffed animals. His books of poetry for children are When We Were Very Young (1924) and Now We Are Six (1927). For adults, Milne wrote novels, several popular comedy plays, and an autobiography called It's Too Late Now (1939).
