• The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was set up to protect not only the environment but also human life. People rely on air, water, and the land to live, so when these resources are threatened, human life is endangered. The EPA enforces federal laws designed to protect these natural resources.

• Air pollution is a major problem in the United States and in many other areas of the world. Air pollution can lead to respiratory or breathing problems for many people. It can also cause problems for animals and plants. Pollution from the air can also get into water supplies and cause additional problems.
