Read about chronological order in the Reader’s Toolbox on page 197. Make a quick time line of events in your life and arrange them in chronological order.
1. Listen as your teacher reads the first three paragraphs. As you listen, jot down events from the selection in chronological order.
2. Continue reading the selection on your own. Keep adding to your time line as you read.
If you are struggling with the selection, try working with a partner to think aloud. Read a few paragraphs and stop to think aloud. Continue thinking aloud throughout the selection.
Review your time line with a partner. If you have any differences in your time lines, refer back to the selection to clear up the confusion.
