
Suspense. Suspense is a feeling of anxiousness or curiosity. A writer creates suspense by raising questions in the readers mind and by using details that create strong emotions. How does the author create suspense in The Tell-Tale Heart?
Narrator. The narrator is a person or character who tells a story. The narrator can be a storys main character, a minor character, or an outside observer. A narrator is either reliable or unreliable. A reliable narrator can be trusted by the reader; an unreliable narrator cannot be trusted. Who is the narrator in this story? What do you learn about the narrator as you read? Is the narrator reliable or unreliable? Use a graphic organizer like the one to the right to list traits of the narrator in the story.
Point of View. Point of view is the vantage point from which a story is told. If a story is told from the first-person point of view, the narrator uses words such as I and we and is a part of or a witness to the action. As you read this story, think about how using the first-person point of view influences the mood of the story and about the way information is conveyed in the story.

These serious mental illnesses cause devastating symptoms, both for those who suffer from them and for their families.
