about the author

Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849) was an American poet, short story writer, and literary critic. Many people consider Poe one of the creators of the modern short story. He is also known for creating the first modern detective story, "Murders in the Rue Morgue," and for developing the psychological horror story in tales such as "The Fall of the House of Usher," "The Black Cat," and "The Tell-Tale Heart." During his lifetime, Poe achieved brief fame for one of his lyric poems, "The Raven." However, it was not until after his death that Poe was hailed as a genius.
