Read about narrator and point of view in the Reader’s Toolbox on page 385 of your textbook. Then set up a chart like the Graphic Organizer on that page.
1. Listen as your teacher reads the first page of the selection aloud. What do you learn about the narrator? Make notes in your chart. You may also want to jot down questions you have about the narrator.
2. Continue reading on your own. Keep adding notes about the narrator to your chart. If you find answers to your questions, jot those down, too.
If you are having trouble completing the chart, work with a partner to do a read aloud/think aloud. Read two or three paragraphs aloud. Stop and think aloud with your partner about the section you read. Then have your partner read the next two or three paragraphs. Again, stop to think aloud. Continue this way until you have completed the selection.
Compare your notes about the narrator with a partner. Then write a brief character sketch of the narrator based on what you wrote.
