Chronological order is the order in which things actually occur. As you read, track the events that occur in the life of the hero Gilgamesh.
1. Listen as your teacher reads the first three paragraphs of “The Epic of Gilgamesh” aloud. As you listen, make a time line, listing events in the order in which they happened.
2. Continue reading on your own. As you read, use your time line to write down key events in the order in which they happen.
If you are having trouble making a time line, try using the Guided Reading Questions. These questions will help you focus on the main ideas of the selection. As you encounter a Guided Reading Question, stop and read the question. Then read the lines around the question to find the answer.
Look back over your time line. Cross out any events that you no longer think are significant. Circle two or three events that you think are most important to the story.
