Luci Tapahonso, a member of the Navajo Nation, grew up in a family of eleven children in Shiprock, New Mexico. As a child, Tapahonso first learned Navajo, then English. She was writing poetry by the time she was eight or nine. Currently, Tapahonso teaches English, Women's Studies, and American Indian Studies at the University of Kansas. She is the author of Navajo ABC: A Diné Alphabet Book and several books of poetry, including Blue Horses Rush In and Sáani Dahataal/The Women Are Singing: Poems and Stories.
