During Reading

Continue to Create Mind Pictures

1. Listen as your teacher reads the first paragraph of the story aloud. Create a mind picture of this scene. What do you see? hear? smell?

2. As you read the rest of the story, keep picturing the scene, including all the things you would see, hear, and smell. Picture Leona and what she is doing, as well. Make sketches or write brief descriptions of what you picture.

Fix-Up Idea: Use Guided Reading Questions

If you find it difficult to visualize as you read, use the Guided Reading Questions. Read each question. Then examine the text around the question to find the answer. These questions point out important parts of the story. Try to create mind pictures based on the specific moments or images related to the answers to the Guided Reading Questions.
