Alfred Noyes (1880–1958) was an English poet known for his traditional lyric verse. While attending Oxford University, he published his first book of poetry, The Loom of Years. Noyes went on to publish other collections of poetry, including Drake and Tales of the Mermaid Tavern. He also wrote an epic trilogy called The Torchbearers and an autobiography called Two Worlds for Memory. Themes Noyes wrote about include his patriotism toward England, his love of the sea, and the progress of science. In addition to writing, Noyes taught in British schools.
