During Reading

Continue to Create Mind Pictures

1. Listen as you teacher reads the first three lines of the poem aloud. Make mind pictures based on the images from the poem. Think about how it would feel to be the speaker, outside on a spring day, finding this flower.

2. Read the rest of the poem on your own. Continue to make mind pictures as you read.

Fix-Up Idea: Read Aloud

If you are having trouble staying focused on the poem, try reading it aloud with a partner. First, have one person read the poem aloud slowly while the other person closes his or her eyes to listen and create mind pictures. Then, switch roles so that each of you gets a chance to read and a chance to listen.
