Irony. Irony is a difference between appearance and reality. In irony of
situation
, one of the forms of irony, an event occurs that violates the expectations of the characters or the reader. As you read, look for the two major examples of irony of situation in the short story.

Stream-of-Consciousness Writing. Stream-of-consciousness writing is literary work that attempts to render the flow of feelings, thoughts, and impressions within the minds of characters. Look for examples of stream-of-consciousness writing as you read.
