During Reading

Use What You Know

1. Listen as your teacher reads the epigraph of the poem. What does van Gogh feel about the stars? What does this epigraph tell you about the painting? What does it make you expect from the poem?

2. Read the poem on your own. Focus on the speaker's feelings.

Fix-Up Idea: Visualize

Close your eyes and listen as someone reads the poem aloud. Try to picture and feel each detail of the scene. Imagine you are in the scene described. How do you think you would feel? Open your eyes and summarize what you pictured in your mind.
