"Ubi Sunt Qui ante Nos Fuerunt?" and "I Sing of a Maiden" were both written anonymously. Although some medieval lyrics were secular, most were religious. Very few of these hymns were attributed to a specific author. Such literature existed many years before it was ever written down and was considered popular verse rather than the work of individual writers.
