Before Reading
Make a Cluster Chart
Read about motif in Literary Tools on page 410. In your notebook, set up a cluster chart like the one on page 410.
During Reading
Fill in the Cluster Chart
1. Listen to scene 1 of act 3. Write down any examples of deception in your cluster chart.
2. Continue reading act 3 on your own. Keep making notes of examples of deception as you read.
Fix-Up Idea: Refocus on Plot
Think about the conflict that was introduced earlier in the play. As you read, look for the climax, or point of highest interest and suspense, and the crisis, or decisive event that causes the main character's situation to become better or worse.
After Reading
Summarize What You Wrote
With a few of your classmates, compare your cluster charts and discuss the effect of the motif on the action of the play.
